Symonds Yat is one of the most iconic and beautiful locations in the Dean Wye. There are three distinct parts: Yat Rock, a viewpoint with incredible views over the River Wye; and the villages of Symonds Yat East and Symonds Yat West on either side of the river. The only way from one side to the other is a long drive or a passenger ferry.

This ancient forest has changed many times over the centuries. In medieval times it was a royal hunting forest, before becoming a source of timber for the navy's Tudor warships. By Victorian times it was a major site of industry, with coal mining and tramways punctuating the landscape. There are many places to explore and things to do when visiting the Forest of Dean.

In Monmouth, the 13th century Monnow Bridge is the only gated bridge of its type in Britain and Monmouth Castle, now a regimental museum, was the birthplace of Henry V. There are events throughout the year including the Monmouth Festival, one of Europe's largest free music festivals, and the Monmouthshire Show, the largest one-day agricultural show in Wales.
